Favorite engineers and designers

Here’s a list of engineers, designers, and data scientists I look up to.

John Resig

John Resig created the jQuery library while still working on his undergraduate degree at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He currently works as a Staff Engineer at Khan Academy.

Nicholas Felton

Nicholas Felton is a data scientist and designer who publishes an annual Feltron Report of his activities. He was one of the lead engineers who helped originally design Facebook’s Timeline.

Aaron Koblin

Aaron Koblin is an artist, designer, programmer, and TED speaker who creates beautiful visualizations, including one of SMS messages in Amsterdam on New Year’s Eve and flight paths.

Simone Giertz

Simone Giertz is the self-styled “Queen of Shitty Robots.” She’s a Swedish inventor, robotics enthusiast, and YouTuber. She builds Rube Goldberg-esque robots to automate everyday tasks that often break down in comical ways. Check out her YouTube channel.

Bret Victor

Bret Victor is an interface designer, computer scientist, and electrical engineer who has worked as a human interface designer for Apple. He was one of a small group of people who worked on the initial design for the iPad. He believes strongly in the principle that creators need an immediate connection to what they’re making. He gave an excellent talk at CUSEC in 2012 about this idea called Inventing on Principle.

David Neevel

David Neevel is an inventor who lives in the Netherlands. He also builds some hilarious Rube Goldberg-esque machines, including one that prints out and burns Trump’s Tweets and one that separates the frosting from Oreos. He’s got several more of his inventions featured on his website.
